The Arizona Cardinals have seemingly cleared up any cloudiness surrounding their immediate future at quarterback by signing Carson Palmer to a three-year extension.

Various reports indicate the deal is worth $50 million.

“Carson has played at an incredibly high level and has been a huge part of the team’s success,” said General Manager Steve Keim in a statement. “When you combine his on-field performance with the leadership, stability and professionalism he brings to our team, there was no question that we wanted to extend the relationship and we are excited he felt the same way.”

The Cardinals acquired Palmer from the Oakland Raiders prior to last season for a 2013 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional 2014 selection.

In his first year with Arizona, Palmer started all 16 games, completing 362-of-572 passes for 4,274 yards and 24 touchdowns while throwing 22 interceptions.

In 2014, Palmer has thrown for 1,385 yards and 11 touchdowns against only two interceptions as the Cardinals have gotten off to a league-best 7-1 start.

Palmer missed three games this season due to a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder, but in his time as the Cardinals’ starter has guided the team to a 15-6 record, including a 12-2 mark over his last 14 starts.

In 142 career starts, Palmer has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 35,124 yards, 224 touchdowns and 154 interceptions.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN has more info on the financial particulars of Palmer’s new deal.
