Arizona’s Cayleb Jones was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
Jones, a sophomore, caught 13 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats’ thrilling 49-45 come-from-behind win over Cal Saturday in Tucson.
Of his 13 catches, nine resulted in first downs or touchdowns, and the overall total is just one shy of Jeremy McDaniel’s school record for receptions in a game. However, McDaniel’s 14-catch performance, which came against Cal in 1996, was in a four-OT matchup, which leaves Jones with the school record for regulation.
The 6-foot-3 transfer from Texas is off to a blistering start in his Arizona career, catching 29 passes for 475 yards and six touchdowns in four games.
Elsewhere in the Pac-12, Utah’s Gionni Paul was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while his teammate Andy Phillips earned the honor for special teams.
