How the West Was Won – Week 14: Arizona Cardinals’ struggles continue

There are plenty of fingers moving toward the panic button in Arizona. The Cardinals, who started the season 9-1, could do nothing right in a 29-18 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome.
Matt Ryan and Julio Jones connected on 10 passes for 189 yards and a 32-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter as the Falcons built a 17-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
The Cardinals’ offense continued to sputter, notching a cosmetic touchdown with 65 seconds left in the game that snapped a string of 29 consecutive possessions that didn’t find the end zone. And the defense wasn’t much better, allowing Atlanta to gain 500 yards after holding four consecutive opponents under 300 yards heading into the contest.
And the list of injured Cardinals got bigger, if that’s possible. Safety Tyrann Mathieu, running back Andre Ellington and guard Paul Fanaika all left the contest in the first half and didn’t return.
