The No. 2 ranked Arizona Wildcats are a good team. Part of being a good team is the ability to succeed against all opponents, whether or not they have the same level of talent on the floor.

Beating teams you are supposed to beat is a good habit to have and exactly what the Wildcats did to open the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Wildcats rode a 53.8 field-goal shooting percentage while limiting the Cal-State Northridge Matadors to 42.3 percent from the floor en route to a 86-68 victory.

Guard T.J. McConnell was a jack of all trades against the Matadors, scoring seven points and grabbing five boards while adding eight assists and a pair of steals.

Sunday’s victory pushes Arizona’s record to 2-0 on the season.

Here’s how UA won its second game in a row, by the numbers:

10

Arizona did a fine job of spreading the love around as 10 Wildcats recorded at least three points. Twelve Wildcats got into the game that was nothing more than a blow out late in the second half.

62.9

The Wildcats did a little better from the charity stripe on Sunday, going 22-of-35 from the line (62.9 percent) one game after a dreadful 12-for-25 performance on Friday.

38

Bench scoring helped lead the Wildcats to victory as the non-starters scored 38 of the team’s 86 points. They outscored the Matadors’ bench by 22 points.

8

Forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson led all players with eight rebounds, helping Arizona out-rebound Cal-State Northridge 25-20.

3

There was a significant disparity between the two team’s ability to drain three-point shots. Arizona hit 8-of-18 3s while the Matadors managed to hit only 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.

17

Stanley Johnson led all Wildcats with 17 points. He went 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3.

34

Sunday’s matchup was a turnover filled affair, as the teams combined to turn the ball over 34 times — Arizona contributed 18.
