Arizona Wildcats easily handle Michigan: By the Numbers

To use the popular vernacular, the Arizona Wildcats didn’t just beat Michigan Saturday.
They flexed on ’em.
That is to say, the No. 3 Wildcats showed every bit of their defensive strength in the 80-53 victory, holding Michigan completely scoreless in the first five minutes of the second half.
And offensively, Arizona fans finally saw the fireworks they knew their team was capable of. From high-flying dunks to power-slams, steals and flushes — Arizona wouldn’t stop, putting up 60 points midway through the second half.

Just how dominant of a win was it, by the numbers?

Arizona went up early and had the momentum to start the second half — so much of it, in fact, that the Wildcats held Michigan scoreless for about five minutes in the second half.
‘Cats fans begin each half standing, and don’t sit until the opposing team scores, so there were a lot of tired legs in that arena Saturday.

The Wildcats made the paint their real estate location of choice, scoring 42 points overall in the box as opposed to Michigan’s 16.

The boards battle told a similar tale, as Arizona won there too. They grabbed 40 rebounds over Michigan’s 26 and hit 10 second-chance points to Michigan’s four.

Stanley Johnson led the Wildcats offensively with 17 points, followed closely by four other Arizona players in double-digit scoring.

With 4:20 left in the game, Arizona held a 36-point lead, its largest of the afternoon.
