Gibson: No interest in going home, managing Tigers

Sep 25, 2012, 8:04 PM | Updated: 9:37 pm

While it hasn’t been the type of season Kirk Gibson and the Diamondbacks envisioned in Spring Training, don’t expect the reigning National League Manager of the Year to jump ship any time soon.

Given recent speculation that veteran skipper Jim Leyland may call it a career at the end of the season with the Detroit Tigers, Gibson was asked Tuesday on Arizona Sports 620’s Burns & Gambo if he would have any interest in returning to the franchise he made a name for himself with back in the 1980s.

His response was a definitive one.

“I really love where I am at right now and really enjoy this organization,” Gibson said, referring to his job with the Diamondbacks. “Right on down the line, from Ken [Kendrick] and Derrick [Hall] to Kevin Towers and the front office people I work with, I feel like we are just getting started here.

“We had a great season last year and have had a little bit of a hiccup this season. And I am certainly going to take the blame for that.”
