Despite elbow tenderness, D-backs’ Arroyo confident he’ll make next start

May 26, 2014, 12:28 AM | Updated: 12:29 am

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Bronson Arroyo turned in a solid outing in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against the New York Mets, but was removed after six innings due in part to elbow tenderness.

The 37-year-old allowed six hits and a walk while inducing four double plays in six innings of a 2-1 win, but manager Kirk Gibson said he lifted Arroyo after six innings because the 37-year-old right-hander had a tender elbow.

But Arroyo said he’s confident that the tenderness is just part of the season-long grind, and he doesn’t expect to miss any time.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll make my next start,” Arroyo said. “But there are just some times when your shoulder is beat up, your elbow is beat up, your back is beat up, there’s times when you’re grinding through (stuff).”
