The Arizona Cardinals, or any other NFL team for that matter, can't complete a trade until the league year officially starts March 12.

But that doesn't stop trade speculation from happening.

Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that the Cardinals, who are seeking help at quarterback, would express interest in 49ers signal caller Alex Smith.

Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports has taken that report one step further Wednesday morning, via Twitter.

No details have surfaced about the Cardinals "weak" offer, but trades between division foes are incredibly rare in the National Football League.

    Good
Lets not be the team that trades a kings ransom for Alex Smith. We did that for Kolb already, lets not do it again.

    So it was
weak but hey why offer a ton for him? Let's just let it play out & go from there. No need to break the bank or risk our picks.

    So glad
the Cards didn't overpay to try to get this guy. Thier offer would likely have had to been better than anyone else's just to get the 49ers to consider trading in the division. Smith was Kevin Kolb with a better line. No big loss.

Very glad Smith not coming here
The bottom line is this, they took a second round pick and one conditional pick for Smith. Does that sound like a franchise QB deal to you. Sorry, but I'm thankful the Cardinals did not make that deal. Give me Bray and time for B.A. and Tom Moore to work with him and I'll wait an extra year if need be to have our franchise QB groomed by the best in the business. Tyler Bray is a lump of coal that will become a diamond under this coaching staff.
