How the West Was Won – Week 2

Sep 10, 2014, 5:03 PM | Updated: 5:03 pm

Things pretty much went according to plan in the NFC West in Week 1.

The defending champion Seattle Seahawks raised their banner in front of their home fans and then dismantled the Green Bay Packers 36-16 in the league’s Thursday night opener. Marshawn Lynch ran for 110 yards and two scores and Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns.

In Dallas, the 49ers took advantage of four Cowboys’ turnovers in a 28-17 win that was closer than the final score would indicate. The Niners led 28-3 at half on the strength of two Colin Kapernick-to-Vernon Davis touchdown passes.

The Rams were expected to struggle on offense with the loss of quarterback Sam Bradford, but their defense was supposed to be solid. It wasn’t in a 34-6 Week 1 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback Shaun Hill left the game with a strained quad, leaving second-year man Austin Davis to control the Rams offense. They managed just two field goals under his guidance.

And Arizona’s offense struggle for a good portion of the game, but came around when it mattered most. Carson Palmer threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to clinch a hard-fought 18-17 win over the Chargers on Monday Night Football.

In Week 2, three of the four teams in the division are favored, including the Cardinals and Seahawks, who are both on the road for the first time this season.
