Patrick Peterson on Richard Sherman: ‘We both have respect for one another’

GLENDALE, Ariz. — It was the embrace seen ’round the world.

Or at least in Arizona and Washington.

Patrick Peterson and Richard Sherman are known as bitter rivals, top-flight football players who man the same position and have each claimed to be the best in the NFL.

Their war of words at times seemed personal, with just more than a month ago Sherman saying he would be benched if he played the way Peterson was. But through it all, some wondered if it was more about putting on a show than about any animosity between the two.

Prior to Sunday’s Pro Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium, this happened:

Peterson was appearing in his fourth Pro Bowl; Sherman, who was voted into his second, did not play due to his team reaching Super Bowl XLIX, which will be played on Feb. 1.

After the game, Peterson was asked about his embrace and conversation with Sherman.

“That’s just the nature of competitors,” he said. “We both are competitive at our position, we are both at the top of our position, but at the same time, no matter how much trash we talk to each other we both have respect for one another.”

That makes sense. But what exactly did the two talk about?

“There weren’t any cameras on so that was between us,” Peterson said, with a laugh.
