Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitching shines in win over Padres: By The Numbers

Sep 5, 2014, 4:55 AM | Updated: Sep 6, 2014, 4:26 am

If only they had been this efficient all season.

One night after three Arizona Diamondbacks pitchers combined for a five-hit performance in a 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres, five pitchers contributed to a four-hit evening Thursday night in Arizona’s 5-1 win in front of 16,025 fans at Petco Park.

Here’s a closer look at how the D-backs split the series with the Padres, by the numbers:

1

Starting pitchers Josh Collmenter (Wednesday) and Randall Delgado (Thursday) combined to allow one earned run in Arizona’s last two games.

3

Fresh off the disabled list after a three-month layoff due to a hand injury, outfielder A.J. Pollock went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and his ninth stolen base of the year.

5

Making just his third start of the season and his first since April 10, Delgado allowed no earned runs on two hits in five innings of work Thursday, striking out two and walking none. It was his longest outing since his last appearance of the 2013 season, when he yielded six earned runs on seven hits in five innings against the Padres.

8

The D-backs are currently riding an eight-game error-free streak.

10

Current Padres pitcher and former D-backs ace Ian Kennedy allowed 10 hits in 5.1 innings Thursday night, yielding four earned runs. Kennedy’s season ERA rose to 3.75.
