Late game heroics resulting in a 38-34 victory on the road against USC has pushed the Sun Devils up to No. 20 in the most recent AP Poll.
Saturday night’s miracle courtesy of a Mike Bercovici-to-Jaelen Strong Hail Mary, breathed new life into an ASU team down on itself after a blowout loss at home the week prior.
With starting QB Taylor Kelly still sidelined with a foot injury, Bercovici threw for 510 yards and five touchdowns on Saturday night. The 21-year-old was great and he had to be as the Devils had no run game to speak of.
Strong went full beast mode on USC, catching 10 balls for 202 yards and three touchdowns.
ASU’s defense had its issues, but played better than they did against UCLA (it would have been difficult to play worse).
The Devils are 4-1 (2-1 in conference) and in second place in the Pac-12 South Division, behind only 5-0 Arizona.
On a break next week, the Devils will likely remain ranked heading into their game against Stanford at home on Oct. 18.
