The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitcher Frank Duncan from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder Phil Gosselin on Friday.
Gosselin was with the D-backs since 2015, when he was traded to Arizona from the Atlanta Braves for pitchers Touki Toussaint and Bronson Arroyo. In his time with the D-backs, Gosselin played in 146 games and hit for a .283 average with 26 runs batted in.
Duncan, a 25-year-old right-hander, will be a non-roster invitee to D-backs camp. He spent last season in the Pirates’ minor league system, starting 22 games between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, going 12-8 with a 2.34 ERA and 116 strikeouts.
The 6-foot-4 pitcher spent three seasons in the Pirates system after being drafted in the 13th round out of the University of Kansas in 2014.
