Arizona Cardinals’ Calais Campbell to undergo surgery for sports hernia

Now that defensive end Calais Campbell’s season is over, he will undergo surgery for a sports hernia. It’s not clear how long Campbell has dealt with the pain, but judging by his comments it’s been more than a few-week ordeal.
“Easy recovery though but it definitely hurts playing through,” Campbell told ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss. “But I figured if I could play through a playoff game, I could play through the Pro Bowl.”
A seven-year veteran, Campbell appeared in his first Pro Bowl on Sunday. He nearly recorded a sack but ultimately did not appear in the box score.
He was named to the second-team All-Pro list after recording 58 combined tackles, seven sacks, an interception and a forced fumble during the regular season.
Early this season, Campbell missed two games when he suffered a knee injury against the Denver Broncos in October. He also made recent news when he donated $1.6 million to the University of Miami.
