D-backs RHP Taijuan Walker hits Giants’ Buster Posey in head with pitch

The Diamondbacks and Giants’ series got off to a scary start Monday when Arizona pitcher Taijuan Walker lost control of a fastball that struck San Francisco’s Buster Posey in the head.

Posey, who remained sitting up in the batter’s box after being hit, was pulled from the game two outs into the bottom of the first inning. The ball appeared to hit the side of his helmet.

Posey walked off under his own power but was replaced by Nick Hundley.

“He’s doing good, he’s doing fine,” manager Bruce Bochy said after the game, a 4-1 Giants win.

Posey is likely to sit out Tuesday’s game, according to The Associated Press.

Statcast registered Walker’s high, inside pitch as a 94-mph fastball.

“I was a little shooken up after I hit Posey in the head. That’s always scary and I never want to do that,” Walker told FOX Sports Arizona‘s Jody Jackson.
