Blazers welcome Cash Considerations in trade with Rockets

You might not know Tim Quarterman. NBA nerds probably do, and they appreciate how the player who averaged 1.9 points per game last year was used in the Houston Rockets’ blockbuster trade on Wednesday that netted them Chris Paul from the Clippers.

More on that in a second.

The important part is that you know Quarterman was dealt to Houston from the Portland Trail Blazers in part of the Rockets’ dealings to trade for Paul. His salary was necessary — read SB Nation’s Mike Prada on the cleverness of it all here — and Houston GM Daryl Morey sent the Blazers cash considerations for their contributions.

Portland’s social media staff didn’t treat it as a meaningless trade.

The Blazers were publicizing and welcoming Cash Considerations to town.

They even held a press conference for Considerations.

And if you aren’t aware of Considerations’ resume, Basketball-Reference.com is here to help.

We’re not sure how much Considerations can give at 225 years old and 25 pounds, but swapping him for Quarterman seems pretty even-Steven.

Now, back to the blockbuster: Houston sent the Clippers Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell. Like Quarterman and Ryan Kelly (Hawks), they also acquired non-guaranteed salaries of DeAndre Liggins (Dallas), and Darrun Hilliard (Pistons) but dealt them to Los Angeles, thus making the Paul trade possible.

It’s almost as if they’ve perfectly planned for this scenario to pan out.
