ESPN chyron says Arizona faces Florida State this Saturday

Aug 28, 2017, 4:40 PM

We’re all too used to national sports networks mixing up ASU and UofA, but this is probably a lot worse.

During a press conference with Alabama head coach Nick Saban on Monday, ESPN thought it’d promote the ABC primetime game for the opening week of college football.

Unfortunately, whomever was in charge of the chyron wrote that Florida State will face Arizona at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.

This is inexcusable for several reasons. For one, whomever wrote the script probably would have known that it was for a video clip involving the Crimson Tide, the No. 1-ranked team in the land.

If that’s not the case, common sense would probably allow most people to realize that a network’s primetime game wouldn’t ever feature the No. 3-ranked Seminoles against the Arizona Wildcats, who are expected to finish in the bottom of the Pac-12 South.

The only explanation here is that somebody doesn’t know the difference between Alabama and Arizona.

Let’s throw out a few differences:

— Cacti vs. trees (?)

— Good tacos vs. probably not good tacos

— Unranked college football teams vs. top-ranked college football team

— Dry heat vs. humidity

Arizona. Alabama.

Different places.
