Former Arizona State lineman and Canyon Del Oro graduate Stephen Berg passed away at the age of 34 on Tuesday, according to his wife’s Facebook account.

“My beautiful husband Stephen Berg gained his wings today! Stephen was a warrior!” Berg’s wife Leslie said in a Facebook post. “Stephen loved hard and touched the lives of everyone he met! This is not a goodbye, but a see you later!”

A 2002 graduate from Canyon Del Oro high school in Tucson, Berg went on to play offensive lineman for the Sun Devils. After redshirting in 2002 and playing in four games in 2003, Berg started in 29 games — starting in every game from his sophomore season to his senior year in 2006.

In August of 2013, Berg was initially diagnosed with colon cancer, which does not have a cure. He had been fighting the disease for the past four years.

To help the family in their time of need, a GoFundMe account has been set up in his honor. To donate, visit the website, here.
