The Chicago Bears are expected to re-sign former Arizona Cardinals cornerback Marcus Cooper, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.
Cooper met with the Cardinals on Friday, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.
After becoming a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016 with the Cardinals, Cooper signed a three-year, $16 million deal with the Bears in March of 2017. The deal had $8 million guaranteed.
Cooper had a down year in the first season of his deal, making only four starts, and was released by Chicago on March 14.
Cornerback Tramon Williams, who started nine games on the opposite side of Patrick Peterson last season, reportedly signed a two-year deal with the Green Bay Packers Thursday.
The Cardinals signed cornerback Bene Benwikere Friday. Benwikere was primarily a special teams player for the Dallas Cowboys last season. He started 14 games in over three seasons with the Carolina Panthers. The signing of Benwikere, though, was said to of not changed the Cardinals’ interest in Cooper, per 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Mike Jurecki.
Arizona reportedly was meeting Thursday with free agent corner Robert McClain, a 29-year-old who spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
