Hockey community honors Humboldt tragedy with simple gesture

The sports world is still grieving following the death of 15 members of the Humboldt Broncos, a junior hockey team based in Saskatchewan.

The team’s bus collided with a semi truck on a Canadian highway en route to Game 3 of the SJHL semifinals.

Ten players, two coaches, the team statistician, the team radio announcer and the bus driver were killed. Fourteen others were injured.

The hockey community has come together following the tragedy, participating in the #SticksOutForHumboldt movement on social media.

Hockey sticks are left outside of someone’s house with the porch light left on to show remembrance.

The Arizona Coyotes were among those who participated.

The efforts have even extended overseas.

They’ve also been done in other areas, such as government buildings in Saskatchewan and the NHL offices.

Members of the Anaheim Ducks did the same on Tuesday.
