Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds impressed in his preseason debut Saturday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Running back David Johnson started the drive with two runs for 14 yards, giving fans a preview of what’s to come this season.

Edmonds came in and topped off the drive with five carries for 11 yards. At the goal line on fourth down of this possession, Edmonds scored on a third effort, climbing over teammates for a touchdown.

That was enough for Wilks, as Edmonds was pulled in the next possession. Former ASU running back D.J. Foster replaced Edmonds.

“Nothing was really glaring, good or bad,” Wilks said. “We’ll have to really go back and watch the tape and see some of the details.”

Foster and T.J. Logan combined for two yards on four carries at the half. Edmonds scored the only Cardinals touchdown in the first two quarters.

The 22-year-old ran for 5,862 career yards and 67 touchdowns in his four years at Fordham before the Cardinals drafted him in the fourth round in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Edmonds impressed the coaching staff prior to the preseason game.

Wilks has complimented him on his ability to both run and block effectively, and it seems that Edmonds will be the backup behind Johnson in the backfield.

After Edmonds’ first appearance against an opposing team, Wilks is just as high on him.

“He’s still a guy that I’m very excited about looking forward to doing some good things,” the coach said.
