Josh Rosen accepted that the Arizona Cardinals drafted a player at his position. He would have competed with fellow quarterback Kyler Murray had he remained in Arizona, but when the team traded him, he understood it.

Rosen respects the Cardinals’ decision to move on a year after he became the No. 10 overall pick in 2018 and the franchise face just three games into the season.

That doesn’t mean the new Miami Dolphins quarterback wasn’t bothered by how he departed the desert.

“I love everyone in that building with the exception of maybe one or two guys,” Rosen said Tuesday on The Rich Eisen Show. “I mean, the only thing that truly did kind of frustrate me through this whole process is, like, I still haven’t heard from my old GM (Cardinals general manager Steve Keim). Like, I didn’t talk to him for months before, didn’t talk to him … after.”

Arizona had kept most people in the dark about its intentions during the pre-draft process, but Rosen knew full well the Murray buzz could alter his standing. His agent called him five minutes before the Cardinals drafted Murray, and Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury rang him just a minute before the team drafted Murray first overall.

“I was literally in Arizona until the one minute before the draft, I got a call from Kliff saying that they were about to draft Kyler,” Rosen said, “but I mean, not for a millisecond was I shying away from competition.

“I have the utmost respect for Kliff. I don’t slight anyone for making business decisions that they think is best for them and their family, but I just really appreciated how he kind of acted like a man and was very respectful, he was wishing me the best. He called me even the day after the draft wishing me good luck, and I wished him good luck. I even gave Kyler a call, sent him a text that said, ‘good luck, wishing you the best.'”

Rosen told Eisen that Kingsbury wasn’t sure what Arizona would do after pairing Murray with Rosen. It was a mutual feeling.

The uncertainty about Rosen’s future lasted just a day before Keim traded him for the 62nd overall pick, which was used to select receiver Andy Isabella, and a 2020 fifth-round choice.

“For the most part, I’m just ready to put that whole chapter behind me and keep pushing on and playing football,” Rosen said.
