Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson was removed from Friday’s game against the Giants after he took a pitch on the hand.

D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said after the game it was a left hand contusion for Dyson and he will be available on Saturday. X-rays were negative.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, with runners on first and third and nobody out, Dyson squared around to bunt against San Francisco pitcher Derek Holland. On his hand closest to the barrel of the bat, the pitch hit him on the fingers and he immediately showed signs of pain.

After some delay to talk to a member of the D-backs training staff and Lovullo, Dyson stayed in the game, went to first, and later scored. But at the conclusion of the inning, Lovullo made defensive changes that took Dyson out of the game.

During the delay, Giants manager Bruce Bochy came out to talk with home plate umpire Andy Fletcher, perhaps to argue that Dyson swung at the pitch he was hit by. Bochy was ejected during the conversation, his third ejection this season.

Dyson finished the day 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch. He has five stolen bases in his last three games, and on Wednesday became the first player in D-backs history to steal multiple bases in consecutive games. He leads the NL with 12 stolen bags.

The 34-year-old is in his second season with the D-backs and is hitting .284.
