The Arizona Diamondbacks joined the list of teams shelling out big money to bolster their roster this MLB offseason.

According to multiple reports, former San Francisco Giants LHP Madison Bumgarner will be joining the the D-backs rotation on a 5-year, $85 million deal.

Bumgarner is the latest free agent signing to make headlines this week.

According to CBS’ MLB free agent tracker, Bumgarner was ranked as the No. 6 available player looking for a new deal this off season. The 30-year-old had a 3.90 ERA in 2019, pitching 207.2 innings with a 1.127 WHIP. He had a very solid 4.72 strikeout-to-walk ratio, averaging 1.9 walks per nine innings to go with 203 strikeouts on the season.

Compared to other free agent signings, Bumgarner’s deal is less than half of what some of the bigger names received.

RHP Stephen Strasburg (No. 3) set an all-time record with his 7-year contract, $245 million deal that he signed with the Washington Nationals.

One day later, the New York Yankees signed RHP Gerrit Cole (No. 2) to a 9-year contract worth $324 million.

No. 1-ranked free agent Anthony Rendon made the jump across the country from Washington to sign with the Los Angeles Angels for a $245 million, 7-year contract. Meanwhile, third baseman Josh Donaldson (No. 4) remains a free agent while catcher Yasmani Grandal (No. 5) signed with the Chicago White Sox for $73 million for 4 years.

Former D-backs catcher Alex Avila, ranked No. 32 among free agents, left for the Minnesota Twins for a 1-year, $4.25 million deal.
