Inside the Box: D-backs start series on right foot

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for
September 5, 2011: Diamondbacks 10, Rockies 7

The Good:

We don’t know if it was the thin mountain air or just a great day, but the Diamondbacks hitters certainly did their job on Monday. Justin Upton and Geoff Blum both homered, Aaron Hill hit two doubles and the D-backs scored a total of 10 runs, with nearly everyone contributing.

Wade Miley got his third win of the season. We were a little worried after he got popped in his MLB debut against Atlanta last month, but he looks to be fitting into the rotation quite well.

The Bad:

The D-backs had a seven-run lead going into the ninth inning. Then Micah Owings came in. He looked good through his first two outs, then gave up a single homer to Dexter Fowler. Owings walked the next two, then gave up yet another home run, bringing the score to 10-7.

In the sixth inning, Upton was hit by a pitch. That makes number 17 on the year. This really is getting a bit ridiculous.

The Funky:

Upton hit his 27th home run of the season in the first inning, setting a career-high for home runs in a season.
