Inside the Box: Walk-off walk wins it for D-backs

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for
September 10, 2011: Diamondbacks 6, Padres 5

The Good:

The Diamondbacks had another comeback win Saturday, maybe one of their toughest of the season. Starter Wade Miley dug them into a hole and they were down two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Two back-to-back solo home runs from Chris Young and Lyle Overbay tied the game at five.

Going into the tenth, the crowd was behind the D-backs, who were again wearing their throw-back uniforms. No matter what the Padres tried, including a five-man infield with the bases loaded, could not stop the D-backs. Overbay was the recipient of four straight outside pitches to earn the walk-off walk.

The Bad:

Though the D-backs won, they should not have been in the comeback position in the first place. Miley, as a rookie starter, showed his inexperience by giving up eight hits – including five earned runs – to the Padres.

The Funky:

The D-backs haven’t lost in purple since October 1st, 2006.
