The Arizona Diamondbacks have named Triple-A Reno infielder/outfielder Nick Evans and Double-A Mobile right-handed pitcher Aaron Blair as the organization’s top minor league player and pitcher — respectively — for the month of May.
The 29-year-old Evans ranked tied for first in doubles (11) and tied for second in RBI and extra-base hits (16) among all Triple-A players for the month of May, while also reaching base via hit or walk in 22 of 28 games. Evans also earned Pacific Coast League Player of the Week recognition from May 18-25, batting .452 (14-for-31) with three doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in seven games.
Blair, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on May 26, went 3-1 with a 0.89 ERA with six walks and 33 strikeouts in six starts last month. In fact, Blair has not allowed an earned run in his last three outings, allowing 12 hits and striking out 19 over that span.
