Taylors, South Carolina Little Leaguer Terrence Gist clearly has a flair for the dramatic.
Stepping to the plate with his team leading 3-1 in the third inning en route to their 7-1 victory over Cranston, Rhode Island in the opening round of the Little League World Series, the ESPN broadcast crew threw it to sideline reporter Jaymee Sire who was in the bleachers interviewing Gist’s mother and twin sister.
As Sire was getting the scoop on the sibling rivalry in the Gist household, young Terrence obliterates the first pitch of his at-bat, belting the pitcher’s offering over the light tower sitting just beyond the fence in left field. The result? Pure unadulterated joy from the Gist clan, captured live on television in a moment that is rather fitting for Williamsport this time of year.
