Three days after decommitting from the Oregon Ducks, 4-star Basha High School quarterback recruit Ryan Kelley announced Friday he has committed to Arizona State.

The 2017 prospect from Chandler, Ariz., is ranked by ESPN as the fifth-best dual-threat quarterback in his class and the 92nd overall player. 247 Sports lists Kelley as the fifth-ranked pro-style quarterback.

Kelley originally committed to the Ducks in November, picking Mark Helfrich’s squad over finalists ASU, Michigan State and UCLA.

The verbal commitment from the 6-foot-4 signal-caller is a positive sign for Arizona State on the recruiting front after it lost offensive coordinator Mike Norvell this offseason and replaced him with former Southern Miss offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.

Arizona State enters 2016 with redshirt sophomore Manny Wilkins, plus redshirt freshmen Brady White and Bryce Perkins, battling for a starting quarterback role. Wilkins had a slight edge in the competition after spring camp closed.

Freshman Dillon Sterling-Cole is also on the roster.

All would still be eligible in 2017 when Kelley would join the Sun Devils.
