Diving deep into the ‘All or Nothing: A Season With the Arizona Cardinals’ trailer

Jun 7, 2016, 6:59 AM | Updated: 3:44 pm

As a guy who loves the movies, I can appreciate a good trailer. It gives you gives you just enough to hook you but not too much to ruin it.

The Monday Night Football ratings spiked the night the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered. One of my all-time favorites is the clever re-editing of the trailer for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to make it look like some indie coming-of-age drama.

Now you have the deep-dive. Take a trailer and tear it apart to find all the hidden clues the movie has to offer, like this one for Captain America: Civil War.

On Monday Amazon released the trailer for All or Nothing, a behind-the-scenes look at the 2015 Arizona Cardinals. Since I’ve watched it now at least a half dozen times, let’s deep dive and see what we come up with.

“As far as goals go, we have one. Super Bowl ring. Not a Super Bowl. Super Bowl ring.”

If you’re going to make this show compelling to non-Cardinals fans you have to have a captivating center of gravity. A figure just bold enough and funny enough to make you want more. Like Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, it’s the role Bruce Arians was born to play. The stuff we get to see is always a show. Just imagine the stuff we don’t get to see. Chances are good we’ll all come back to work the next week laughing in the break room over what cool Uncle Bruce had to say.

Troy Aikman: “I was told you weren’t really happy about that.”
Larry Fitzgerald: “It wasn’t like a discussion.”

That’s a snippet of conversation between the Fox analyst and Cardinals’ star wideout discussing his move to inside receiver. Fitz has long been known as the guy who always says the right thing. If the cameras can somehow catch him saying the wrong thing…now that’s worth watching. Just like Tom Cruise in Collateral or Jennifer Aniston in Horrible Bosses, an actor playing against type is always fun to watch.

Patrick Peterson behind the wheel of a fancy automobile, holding a baby and wearing an elf costume.

It’s the kind of range that would make Kevin Spacey jealous.

Chris Johnson’s bullet scar

From being a late addition during training camp to his surprising ascension as one of the top running backs in the league to the injury that ended his year for good. Whether it’s Pretty Woman or Slumdog Millionaire, Hollywood loves the rags-to-riches stories. Throw in a bullet scar and you can expect Chris Johnson to be a featured player on the show.

The pain of football.

We see Mike Iupati on the ground while our good friend Ron Wolfley describes how a serious injury “transcends the game.” Iupati ended up being okay but Tyrann Mathieu didn’t have the same luck. Revisiting that night in Philadelphia won’t be a high point for Cards fans.
