Diamondbacks call up prospect Peter O’Brien

He’s back.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled outfielder Peter O’Brien from Triple-A Reno. Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro was the first to report the move.

Gambadoro is also reporting O’Brien will be starting in left field Friday and batting fifth.
O’Brien, 25, is one of the D-backs’ top hitting prospects. Originally a catcher who has since been moved to the outfield, he has batted .330 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI in 212 at-bats for Triple-A Reno this season.
Acquired in the deal that sent Martin Prado to the New York Yankees in 2014, O’Brien has had two previous stints with the Diamondbacks. In 2015, he collected four hits — including one home run — with three RBI in 10 at-bats. He was called up to the team a couple weeks ago and received one at-bat, in which he struck out.
It remains to be seen where O’Brien will fit with the team long-term, as the D-backs are overloaded with corner outfielders.
To make room for O’Brien on the roster, the D-backs have optioned pitcher Edwin Escobar to Reno.
