Lisa Love says expectations for ASU not out of hand

There are some out there who think Arizona State is about
where it should be.

That is, a mediocre record — while disappointing — is
not really unreasonable, given the team’s facilities, fan
support and history.

Vice President of Athletics Lisa Love disagrees.

“The sight for our football program is a great platform of
Rose Bowl competitiveness, of getting into that mix and
taking the next steps that we need to take,” she told
Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf.

Love did say head coach Dennis Erickson has put the team
in a good spot.

“Look at the entire picture, make sure that you realize
that under Coach Erickson’s watch the program has
advanced,” she said. “Many of our fans, while very
frustrated, are also noting that fact and crediting Coach
Erickson and his staff for moving the program forward.”

Love says the perspective has impressed her, and her
comments could be interpreted as support for her embattled
football coach.

Or, perhaps, it’s just the words of someone who is not
ready to throw a coach under the bus — before she kicks
him out.
