Rickie Weeks Jr. saves D-backs with unbelievable catch, concludes wild Arizona win

Madness. That’s what occurred at Coors Field Friday night in an Arizona Diamondbacks’ 10-9 win over the Colorado Rockies.
As you might have guessed with a game going four and a half hours and setting the record for the longest nine-inning game in National League history, there was a lot that happened.
The turning point of the game appeared to be in the top of the seventh inning.
Looking to rebound after Jake Lamb’s error in the bottom of the sixth that led to two runs and a 3-2 Rockies lead, the D-backs answered in a hurry.
Lamb himself had his redemption, bringing in two runs on a triple. That was followed by four more runs, including a three-run monster home run by Yasmany Tomas.

The 8-3 lead seemed like more than enough for Arizona to pick up the win, but the Rockies went on to score six runs combined in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.
A 9-8 Colorado advantage surely had to be the end of it, but there was far more insanity to come.
A solo shot by Tomas, his second of the game, tied the game once again and Michael Bourn’s RBI single followed and had the D-backs back in the lead.

Now with a 10-9 lead and their closer Brad Ziegler in, Arizona looked to close it out. While that did happen, it was under truly bizarre circumstances.
With a lead-off double by Nolan Arenado in a one-run game, the Rockies put down a sacrifice bunt. Having plenty of time to throw to first, catcher Chris Herrmann’s throw was well short of first base and both runners were safe.
The next batter hit a grounder to short, and Arenado inexplicably tried to score from third after freezing up and getting a horrendous jump. He was well short of home base and eventually tagged out in a rundown.
Just as everyone was able to process the mistake made by Arenado, Nick Hundley hit a ball to deep left field and forced Rickie Weeks Jr. to save the game.

Somehow, the veteran outfielder reeled it in on a superb jumping effort, rescuing the Diamondbacks and playing a large part in putting an end to a wildly entertaining game.
