Wildcats out of AP Top 25 poll

Sep 23, 2012, 3:29 PM | Updated: 4:35 pm

Well, that didn’t take too long.

Only two weeks after cracking the AP Top 25 poll with an upset win over then-ranked No. 18 Oklahoma State, the Arizona Wildcats find themselves on the outside looking in once again.

Despite going into Autzen Stadium last night sporting a 3-0 record and one of the most proficient offenses in all of college football during the early part of the 2012 season, Rich Rodriguez’s squad was routed by the No. 3 Oregon Ducks to the tune of 49-0.

While the game was hyped to be an offensive shootout, the Wildcats struggled mightily to hold onto the football, committing a season-high five turnovers.

If not for an opportunistic defensive effort in the first half – trailed only 13-0 after 30 minutes of play – the final margin of victory might have been much wider.

In addition to their willingness to give on Saturday night, the Wildcats, who came in averaging over 46 points per game, went an astounding 0-for-6 in red zone opportunities.

Ironically, the last time UA was ranked was back in 2010. They were knocked out of the Top 25 after losing to a then-No. 1 Oregon team.

UA returns to Tucson next Saturday with a Pac-12 home opener again No. 18 Oregon State. The Beavers have only played twice this season, but already have beaten ranked foes Wisconsin and UCLA.
