Mauro, 23, is a rookie from Stanford who was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in May. He landed on the team’s practice squad after training camp.
The 6-foot-6, 282-pound defensive end played in 13 games for Stanford last season, registering 51 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception for the Pac-12 champions.
Mauro had 11 sacks in his college career and was All-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2013.
He had 10 total tackles and two sacks in four preseason games for the Steelers.
