Arizona State senior running back Jacom Brimhall has been nominated for the 2017 Burlsworth Trophy, an annual award that is given to the most impressive walk-on football player in America. The announcement was made by the Springdale (Ark.) Rotary Club.

Brimhall is one of 63 players chosen from Division I schools across the nation. The trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth, a former University of Arkansas walk-on and All-American offensive lineman.

The Burlsworth winner will be announced at a awards ceremony held on Dec. 4th in Springdale, Ark. Three selected finalist will be honored at the observance.

Before ASU, Brimhall competed at Mesa Mountain View where he rushed for 3,119 yards to go with 35 touchdowns in the last two years with the school.

Despite having an opportunity to play football at a university after high school, the running back decided to serve a Latter Day Saints mission in Mexico City for two years. A year after playing as a walk-on in 2014, Brimhall received a full scholarship.

The Burlsworth Trophy isn’t the only hardware Brimhall is nominated for. The running back is also a finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy that recognizes the top football scholar-athlete in the nation.

Brimhall finished his exercise and wellness undergraduate degree in less than four years. He is now in the midst of completing his graduate program.
