People are very mad the WaPo misidentified Sun Devils as Wildcats

Give the Sun Devils their glory.

Beating No. 2 Kansas in the Phog is as impressive of a college hoops road win as, well, any one could think up. For the most part, basketball heads gave Bobby Hurley’s Arizona State crew its due after a 95-85 win on Sunday. But as tends to happen all too often, not everyone accurately spread the news.

According to one Twitter user, it was the Washington Post that led its men’s hoops roundup off the Associated Press’ wire with ASU’s upset.

But with just a few tweaks needed to fit the headline, somebody got it all wrong.

“Behind Holder, Wildcats humble No. 2 Jayhawks,” the headline read.

Mistakes happen, it’s true. But considering those of us in this state involved in this rivalry always see this mixup happen, it doesn’t get any easier to accept that those — usually on the East Coast — can’t get it right.

Is it branding problems? Late night games?

Probably neither.

Here’s a truth: It’s hard to say that mistaking Sun Devils and Wildcats is something that is OK.

The people were not pleased.
