One of the top bigs available is considering Arizona State basketball.
Scouthoops.com reports 7-foot center Thon Maker, from Orangeville Prep in Canada, has added ASU to his list of potential destinations, joining Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky.
Scout spoke with Maker’s mentor, Ed Smith.
“A good friend of mine was just hired at Arizona State in Brian Merritt,” Smith said. “We spoke to Brian and we are going to look at them some.”
Maker’s prior relationship with Merritt got the Devils on the list, so now “it’s all about speaking to coach Hurley, seeing what their interest is and seeing if a mid-year situation comes,” Smith said.
Although a visit to the school hasn’t been scheduled, Smith said Maker would consider taking a trip to Arizona State.
According to Scout, Maker is taking the spring off from playing AAU to focus on completing his school work.
If ASU can land Maker, he’d be highest-ranked recruit to chose the university since James Harden in 2007.
