Following the NCAA’s announcement of a recruiting dead period, the Collegiate Commissioners Association suspended the signings of National Letters of Intents for at least 30 days.

Division I and II players will not be able to sign NLIs until at least April 15.

In turn, this has led to an extension for Div. I football signing periods and could lead to an extension for basketball as well.

Once the signing period resumes, football players will be given 30 extra days to sign. The NLI period was initially scheduled to go from Feb. 5 through April 1.

The men’s and women’s Div. I NLI signing period was scheduled to begin April 15 and end May 20. The CCA said it “will evaluate the basketball signing period on or before April 15.”

On Friday, the NCAA announced that in-person recruiting will not be allowed through April 15. Schools were told to suspend all visits, official and unofficial.

The Pac-12 announced that all sporting events would be canceled through the rest of the 2019-20 school year.

The NCAA also announced that it supports “eligibility relief” for athletes participating in sports affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

“Council leadership agreed that eligibility relief is appropriate for all Division I student-athletes who participated in spring sports,” the organization said in a statement. “Details of eligibility relief will be finalized at a later time.”
