ASU product Josh Christopher stars in Rockets’ schedule release skit

Aug 18, 2022, 10:10 AM

Every year, there is going to be a team that pours a ton of energy into its schedule release.

Sometimes they hit. Sometimes they don’t.

For the NFL, you might remember the Los Angeles Chargers doing an anime spoof. That hit.

The Houston Rockets for Wednesday’s NBA schedule release did a workplace skit in their offices featuring a handful of players and there were some funny, charming moments.

First-round pick Jabari Smith Jr. was the lead actor of the short and began the video not being able to get into the building because his keycard didn’t work. We’ve all been there.

Throughout the video, a date or two of a game would be revealed. Sometimes it was right in front of your face, and in other instances, it was more subtle. You’ll have to go Easter egg hunting with a couple of views in order to find them all.

Smith runs into a few of his teammates throughout the office, including fellow rookies Tari Eason and TyTy Washington, plus guard and former Arizona State Sun Devil Josh Christopher.

Christopher is the star of the video as he doodles in his cubicle and feeds his guppies — they are fitting office pets for the guy nicknamed JayGup. Nice.

Head coach Stephen Silas rolls in for a meeting after the Rockets’ mascot Clutch bides time by dancing on the table, wiping out right before Silas’ arrival.

While the video doesn’t really give you a grasp of the schedule until the credits roll, it was a clever skit to allow the players to showcase their personalities, and that’s always a plus.
