The Arizona Wildcats received a single point in The Associated Press college football rankings after opening the season with a victory against San Diego State on Saturday.

The Wildcats went on the road to beat SDSU 38-20 in the first game at the Aztecs’ new home, Snapdragon Stadium. The Aztecs are coming off a 12-2 season in 2021 and were selected to finish second in the Mountain West this year.

Omaha World-Herald reporter Sam McKewon selected Jedd Fisch’s Wildcats as the No. 25 team in his poll submitted.

Released Tuesday, the AP poll also saw the Arizona State Sun Devils’ Week 2 opponent rise.

The No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys host ASU in Stillwater, Okla., this Saturday after beating Central Michigan on Saturday, 58-44. OSU was 12th in the poll this preseason.

The Sun Devils are coming off a 40-3 win against Northern Arizona in their opener.

The Pac-12 went 9-3 in the opening week of play, with two of its ranked teams losing high-profile battles.

Previously 11th-ranked Oregon lost to No. 3 Georgia, 49-3, while No. 7 Utah fell at unranked Florida, 29-26.

The Ducks dropped to a spot outside the top-25, while the Utes fell six spots. The USC Trojans are the highest-ranked Pac-12 school at No. 10 and moved up four spots from a week ago with a 66-14 victory against Rice.

Alabama remained No. 1 in the AP poll, receiving 44 of 63 first-place votes from the media panel.

Georgia moved up to No. 2 in the first Associated Press college football poll of the regular season, passing Ohio State, after the defending national champions dominated their opener.

The Bulldogs narrowed the gap on the Crimson Tide after beating Oregon. Georgia received 17 first-place votes.

Ohio State slipped to No. 3 and received two first-place votes. Michigan moved up four spots to No. 4.

Clemson dropped a spot to No. 5.

Florida debuted at No. 12 after its thrilling victory at home against Utah on Saturday night.

The rest of the top 10 was Texas A&M at No. 6, followed by Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Baylor and Southern California.

USC is in the top 10 for the first time since the final regular-season poll of 2017, when the Trojans were eighth.

The eighth-ranked Fighting Irish dropped three spots out of the top five after losing 21-10 at Ohio State.
