ESPN: Jen Welter was strongly impacted by Cardinals players

Aug 31, 2015, 4:15 PM | Updated: 4:55 pm

Arizona Cardinals coaching intern Jen Welter made history when she became the first female coach in the NFL. Welter recently sat down with ESPN to talk about her experiences as her internship comes to an end.

It’s evident to players, coaches and fans that Welter has made an impact on the Cardinals, but one of Welter’s biggest takeaways from her time with the team was the impact that the players had on her.

“NFL players and most professional athletes are so misunderstood,” Welter said.

“I wish that everybody could see the people that these guys are, not just the players on Sunday. Because I am so tired of hearing them torn down all the time.”

It’s those relationships that will make the end of her internship such a difficult goodbye.

As her internship comes to an end and Welter moves forward in her coaching career, as far as her NFL future is concerned, Welter says her fate is in the hands of the league.

“I guess it’s up to the 32 teams in the NFL out there to say we like this component of coaching and we’d like to bring that to our team.”
