Wednesday, Arizona State head football coach Todd Graham hired “the best strength and conditioning coach in America”, to join his staff. Those are flattering comments about Shawn Griswold, Graham’s latest hire.
Griswold has been named the Director of Strength and Conditioning at ASU following Graham from the University of Pittsburgh, where he held the same position.
In a statement, Graham made it clear that he relies on Griswold heavily.
“Shawn is instrumental in everything we do,” Graham said, “His work in strength and conditioning provides the necessary foundation, both physically and mentally, for our football program to succeed on the field.”
Prior to his stint with Pittsburgh, Griswold’s regimen helped propel Tulsa to being one of the most explosive teams in the last decade. The Golden Hurricanes ranked 5th nationally in total offense in 2010.
Griswold was the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Tulsa on two occasions, once from 2004 to 06, and again from 2008 to 10.
During his break from Tulsa, Griswold was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of Louisville in 2007.
Griswold’s coaching career began in 1996 at his alma mater, Utah State, as a graduate assistant. He spent eight years on the Aggies’ coaching staff, serving as head strength and conditioning coordinator from 1999 to 2003.
