Devils shoot blanks in loss to Pepperdine

TEMPE, AZ— Pepperdine got hot from behind the three-point
arc in the first half, and lived at the free throw line in the 2nd half in a
66-60 win over Arizona State in front of 4,127 fans at Wells Fargo Arena
on Tuesday night.

The Waves knocked down 7 of 9 three-point attempts before halftime,
and they were from a variety of shooters. Nikolas Skouen, Dane Suttle,
Jr. and Tempe High School product Jordan Baker each canned two treys
in the first half, but it was the final one, by Hector Harold with 3:31
remaining in the half that gave Marty Wilson’s team an 11-point
advantage at 35-24.

To combat the barrage of long-range jumpers, the Sun Devils switched
out of their patented zone defense and into a man-to-man look in the
second half. But the Devils got into foul trouble, committing their 10th
team foul with 8:46 remaining in the game. Pepperdine took advantage,
hitting 18 of 25 free tosses after halftime.
