Chanse Creekmur leaves ASU basketball program

Just three days after a loss to Stanford in the first round of the Pac-
12
Tournament in Los Angeles ended their season, Herb Sendek’s
Arizona State basketball program saw another player fly the coop.

Sophomore wing Chanse Creekmur is leaving the the team after a
strange up-and-down campaign.

The Marshalltown, Iowa product had a career-high 24 points,
including hitting 6-of-7 three pointers in a 76-66 win over Oregon
State on January 14. The outburst capped a 9-game stretch in
which Creekmur connected on 53.7% (22-of-41) of his three-point
attempts.

Many thought it was a breakout performance for Creekmur, but
instead, a prolonged slump immediately followed. He went
scoreless in ASU’s next four games despite playing an average of 30
minutes per game.

Over ASU’s last 14 games, Creekmur averaged just 3.2 points per
game on 29.4% (15-for-51) shooting.

According to Doug Haller of The Arizona
Republic
, Creekmur is going to pursue football at a smaller
school. The 6-foot-5 Creekmur was a high school quarterback in
Iowa, leading the Marshalltown Bobcats to a 13-1 record in his
senior season.

Creekmur is the 10th Sun Devil to leave the basketball program in
the last four years.
