Arizona State Sun Devils walloped by Stanford in late-night game: By the Numbers

The Arizona State Sun Devils did plenty of things well on Saturday night, but Stanford was simply sensational. A great start and a great finish by the Cardinal propelled them to a 89-70 blowout victory.
The two teams engaged in an exciting back-and-forth before the Cardinal opened up a double-digit lead just before halftime. An 18-7 run to end the first half was the start of a 19-point win for Stanford, its fourth in the last five games.
ASU fought hard, but could not break through in the second half of a game that went past midnight in Arizona by the time it finished. Stanford took advantage by pulling away in the game’s final 10 minutes.
The Sun Devils hit a bump in the road against Stanford after winning their last two games. The loss drops ASU to an even 10-10 overall and 2-5 in Pac-12 play.
Forward Savon Goodman led all Sun Devils with 18 points off the bench. No other ASU player reached double figures.

Forward Jonathan Gilling earned his first start of the season on Saturday night. He finished with nine points and five rebounds.

Five players scored in double figures, including four Stanford players. Chasson Randle and Anthony Brown led the way with 21 points each. Stefan Nastic had 20 and Roscoe Allen had 12. Goodman was the only Sun Devil to eclipse the 10-point barrier.

After hitting eight 3s in the first half, the Sun Devils never connected again from beyond the arc. ASU finished 8-of-21 (38.1 percent) from long range.

The Cardinal dominated the defensive glass, grabbing 30 defensive rebounds and 36 overall. ASU had 26 boards, including 18 defensive rebounds.

Stanford’s 89 points were the most allowed by the Sun Devils in a game this season. The previous high was 84 allowed in a triple overtime loss to Lehigh on Dec. 20.

With the game well in hand, Stanford’s Elliott Bullock scored his first bucket since 2010. Injuries and a Mormon mission caused Bullock to miss the last three seasons.
