Arizona Cardinals’ Andre Ellington undergoes successful surgery

Dec 9, 2014, 6:07 PM | Updated: 6:08 pm

Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington underwent a procedure Tuesday morning to mend a hernia, tweeting that the surgery was a success.

Ellington injured his hip and left the game early against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 30 and then missed the team’s 17-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs the following week. The team placed Ellington on injured reserve Monday, ending the running back’s season.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said before practice on Monday that he didn’t expect the running back to also need surgery on his foot, which has been hampering him throughout the season.

The running back rushed for 660 yards and three touchdowns in 2014, adding 395 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Although the overall totals improved in Ellington’s second season, his yards-per-carry were down from 5.5 to 3.3 compared to his rookie season in 2013.
