Report: Arizona Cardinals to sign LB Sean Weatherspoon

Reports circulated over the weekend that free agent linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was “leaning toward” signing with the Arizona Cardinals.

Yahoo! Sports insider Rand Getlin has taken it one step further.

Weatherspoon, 27, has played in only seven games over the last two seasons for the Atlanta Falcons. In 2012, he was bothered by knee and foot injuries and missed all of last season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

ESPN’s John Clayton all but confirmed the report Monday morning on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

“It’s agreed to. Nothing’s finalized until (Tuesday), yeah but he’s coming in for a little less than $4 million a year on a one-year deal,” Clayton told Doug and Wolf. “Good football player. He’s had some injuries the last couple of years, so you hope he stays healthy, but yeah, it’s a done deal.”

Originally a first-round pick (19th overall) of the Falcons out of Missouri in 2010, Weatherspoon was a very productive player in his first three years in the league. In 2011, he had a career-high 115 tackles, four sacks and eight passes defensed.
