Shaquille O’Neal says he’ll make it to Tucson some to watch son play

May 3, 2017, 9:29 AM

The University of Arizona got one of its coolest basketball commitments ever when Shareef O’Neal, the son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, pledged to play at the school.

One of the top players in the class of 2018, the 6-foot-8 forward’s decision to attend Arizona over a host of other elite programs was big news for Sean Miller, who has made a habit of landing some of the nation’s top players.

Of course, while Shareef is no doubt a good player, part of the appeal of his choosing Tucson is that his dad — who said he had no say in his son’s decision — might make his way to McKale Center for some games.

In fact, he told TMZ he would make it to the Old Pueblo “every now and then,” though when asked who he would root for if Arizona played LSU, his alma mater, his answer was a bit more coy.
