Defense. Yes, there was defense.
Kicking. There was some good stuff there as well.
Was a low-scoring game that included 23 penalties for 193 combined yards exclusively because of the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers having great defenses?
That’s not so true. A field-goal fest was also thanks to two NFC West teams whose offenses were struggling, and struggling big-time.
It’d been six years, dating back to Sept. 26, 2011, since two teams combined for nine field goals field goals in an NFL game, according to the FOX broadcast. Arizona and San Francisco found themselves in that position after a very literal back-and-forth for the entire game, starting with Robbie Gould’s 49-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Gould and Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson would take turns scoring three points at a time through the entire game, finding their teams tied, 12-12, heading into overtime. San Francisco would hit the ninth field goal with 2:24 left in the extra period, before Arizona decided to find Larry Fitzgerald for a 19-yard touchdown pass that game his team a 18-15 win.
But to that point, no, people weren’t appreciating the viewing experience.
Should they have? That’s up for debate.
All we know is that there weren’t many takes that involved praises for two stellar defensive units, or Dawson, whose three misses in three weeks leading into the year were a concern.
So, sorry Phil. People aren’t talking about you enough.
Niners-Cardinals is a gunfight except everyone’s just throwing their gun at someone trying to hit them in the neck really hard.

This Cardinals-49ers game is like watching two guys at the old person's home slowly trade blows with their canes.

49ers-Cardinals at the moment: Eight punts, eight field goals, no touchdowns.
It’s like watching a trash compacter recycle beer cans.— Norman Chad (@NormanChad) October 1, 2017
The 49ers/Cardinals game is an exciting game if your fetish involves teams kicking multiple field goals. #SFvsARI

49ers: We're going to win this game, no offense
Cardinals: What a coincidence, we are also going to win this game with no offense#SFvsAZ

Dbacks run differential matches the Cardinals' offensive output at this point.

The bar fight gets drunker as we continue on: Through regulation, Cardinals at 4.0 yards per play, 49ers at 3.9

MORE 49ERS-CARDINALS FOOTBALL, akin to MORE KNICKS-MAGIC BASKETBALL, akin to MORE PADRES-REDS BASEBALL.
Just what everyone wanted.

I think I understand why NFL ratings are down after watching this 49ers-Cardinals game.
